WORKING IN NORWAY

Know what you need before you start

Healthcare professions are regulated in Norway. Depending on your profession, education and country of qualification, you may need Norwegian authorisation or a licence before you can practise under a protected professional title.

Doctors, Nurses and Healthcare Workers each have their own route to approval. Requirements can also differ depending on whether you are establishing yourself in Norway or providing services temporarily.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health provides the official guidance for authorisation and licensing. Use the official information to check the requirements for your profession and background.

Check authorisation and licensing requirements

You can also find the application form and guidance through Altinn.

Language expectations, documentation and possible additional requirements vary according to the profession and the country where the education was completed. The employer must be able to ensure that healthcare personnel have the language skills needed to provide safe care.
